Master Holiday Gift Giving This Year!
Thanksgiving is 3 1/2 weeks away. Yep, you read that right. Also, if you celebrate Christmas, you have 7 Fridays left to be ready for the big day.
This time of year brings on different emotions for different people. Some feel the excitement about all the hoopla, family, shopping, and celebrations and others feel anxious about all the same things. Depending on what holidays you celebrate, Christmas, Hanukah, or any of the others (we humbly admit we don’t know all the names) the holidays bring varying feelings for each of us.
These feelings stem from life experiences. However, there is always some form of stress and hurriedness to get all the things done for that special day of celebration. Here are some tips to keep that additional stress down when buying gifts for the masses. For all of you who have your shopping done months in advance, we envy you every year!
Determine who is on your list
This seems obvious but how often have you realized at the last minute you forgot one person? Start by writing it down early. The family members, friends and then the others you buy for. It could be your hair stylist, delivery person, neighbor who has been so helpful this year… Then keep updating it as people pop into your head or you see someone. Taking this step will keep you on top of the number of gifts to purchase.
Here is start.
- Family
- Friends
- Colleagues
- Partners
- Clients
- Hair Stylist
- Neighbors
Spread out the purchases
Plan in advance and space out your purchases. It keeps the overwhelm down and is usually better on the budget. Determine the number of gifts you plan to purchase and divide them up by the number of weeks you have left until the big day. Here is the tough part…stick to it.
Start with the people you must buy for then the ones you would like to buy for. This way if it gets too crazy at the end you can remove them from the gift list and it won’t hurt anyone.
Decide who you need to pick out individualized gift for
There are usually people on our list who we want to do the shopping for ourselves. Our spouse or significant other, kids, parents, a close friend probably fit into this category. These are important, personal touches that make a heartfelt impact and provide sentimental value. Your parents may even want that homemade gift or special time spent together rather than “things”.
For all the others check out this sampling of sites to help
https://greetabl.com/ – gifts average $20 each in a customizable box. Create many custom gifts and have them mailed to each individual person with one payment.
https://www.sendoutcards.com/app – cards with a personalized note for $2.75 each plus postage.

…Or let someone else handle it
It may be uncomfortable to let someone else handle your shopping, but why not get off your computer a little more and hand the online shopping to a Virtual Assistant? Clients, referral partners, and all the people you mail gifts to can be handed over so you can have more free time and less anxiety about getting it all done. Guess what?
